Vincent Warren

Vincent Warren is the Executive Director of the Center for Constitutional Rights (CCR). Vince oversees CCR’s litigation and advocacy work, which includes using international and domestic law to hold corporations and government officials accountable for human rights abuses; challenging racial, gender and LGBT injustice; and combating the illegal expansion of U.S. presidential power and policies such as illegal detention at Guantanamo, rendition, and torture. Prior to his tenure at CCR, Vince was a national senior staff attorney with the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU), where he litigated civil rights cases, focusing on affirmative action, racial profiling and criminal justice reform. Prior to the ACLU, Vince monitored South Africa’s historic Truth and Reconciliation Commission hearings and worked as a criminal defense attorney for the Legal Aid Society in Brooklyn.

Althea Wasow

Althea Wasow is a filmmaker and a Ph.D. student in Film & Media and Critical Theory at UC Berkeley. Her research focuses on the intersection of media transition, theories of racial difference, and crime. “the wannabe,” a film she wrote and directed, won Best Short at HBO’s New York International Latino Film Festival. Her work also includes “The Whole World Revolved Around Her,” featuring Wangechi Mutu, and has screened at national and international film festivals, the Institute of Contemporary Art/Boston, the Schomburg Center for Research in Black Culture, the Queens Museum of Art, and other institutions. Althea has collaborated on documentary films, museum exhibitions, photography books, and multimedia projects including: “For All the World to See: Visual Culture and the Struggle for Civil Rights” (media researcher & consultant), “An American Index of the Hidden and Unfamiliar” (co-writer & senior editor), "Rikers High" (co-producer), “The Autobiography of Malcolm X Multimedia Study Environment” (assistant editor), “The Innocents” (producer & project editor), and “The Mark of Cain” (associate producer). Althea is a co-founder of the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP) and served on its board of directors for nearly ten years.

We Have Photoshop

We Have Photoshop was born in New Haven, Connecticut in March 2007 and received an MFA from Yale School of Art a couple of months later. Before We Have Photoshop was born it was a magazine art director and senior lecturer in London; a book designer for university presses in Louisiana and North Carolina; and a designer of corporate literature in New York. In the short time since its birth it has been involved with museums in midtown Manhattan; colleges in Brooklyn, Philadelphia and Oslo; multiculturalists in northern Italy; architects and researchers in New Jersey; and artists in Chelsea and Brooklyn. We Have Photoshop recently completed work on the MPP Know Your Lines.

WeShouldDoItAll

Sarah Nelson Jackson and Jonathan Jackson are principals of WeShouldDoItAll (WSDIA), a contemporary design studio that translates clients’ needs into dynamic, visual systems that can be presented at multiple scales. These solutions take the form of branding, interactive, print, environmental or spatial projects. Our name is simply a goal. Designers should not feel constrained to some singular expertise. To survive our own creative game, it is imperative to know that there is not one absolute solution to any given problem. To immerse oneself within different avenues of creativity, forces consideration of the otherwise unconsidered. It’s that method of working that’s exciting and motivating for the studio’s practice.

West Harlem Environmental Action, Inc.

West Harlem Environmental Action, Inc. (WE ACT for Environmental Justice) is a Northern Manhattan community-based organization whose mission is to build healthy communities by assuring that people of color and/or low-income participate meaningfully in the creation of sound and fair environmental health and protection policies and practices.. CUP and WE ACT came together to create Is Your Home Making You Sick?. Using colorful, user-friendly illustrations and visuals, this fold-out poster shows how things like neighborhood pollution and poor indoor air quality impact your health, and empowers residents to change and improve their home environments by holding landlords accountable and organizing for policy change. https://www.weact.org/

Stephanie Whitehouse

Stephanie Whitehouse holds an undergraduate degree in Communication Design from NSCAD (Halifax) and a Master’s degree in City Planning from the University of Manitoba. She is an exhibit designer at the Manitoba Museum in Winnipeg, Canada. She also runs a small design studio called Public Image Co, working primarily for non-profit organizations.

Wildlife Conservation Society

Wildlife Conservation Society (WCS) is a global organization with headquarters in New York City, that currently works to conserve more than two million square miles of wild places around the world. Based at the Bronx Zoo, WCS maintains approximately 500 field conservation projects in 65 countries, with 200 PhD scientists on staff. In the summer of 2018, CUP collaborated with WCS, and public high school students from around the South Bronx to investigate who has access to nature in the city and what could nature in the Bronx could look like in the future. https://www.wcs.org/

Maya Wiley

Maya Wiley is the Founder and President of the Center for Social Inclusion, a national public policy strategy organization that unites policy research and grassroots advocacy. As a civil rights attorney and policy advocate, Ms. Wiley has litigated numerous cases, lobbied Congress and developed programs to transform structural racism in the US and abroad. 
Prior to founding the Center for Social Inclusion, Maya was a senior advisor on race and poverty to the Director of U.S. Programs of the Open Society Institute and helped develop and implement the Open Society Foundation – South Africa’s Criminal Justice Initiative. She has worked for the American Civil Liberties Union National Legal Department, in the Poverty and Justice Program of the NAACP Legal Defense and Educational Fund, Inc. and in the Civil Division of the U.S. Attorney’s Office for the Southern District of New York. Maya previously served on the boards of Human Rights Watch, the Institute on Race and Poverty at the University of Minnesota School of Law and the Council on Foreign Relations. She currently chairs the Tides Network Board and was named a NY Moves magazine 2009 Power Woman. In 2011 Wiley was named as one of “20 Leading Black Women Social Activists Advocating Change” by The Root.com.

Dan Wiley

Dan Wiley is a Community Coordinator for a Congressperson in southwest Brooklyn and teaches part time at Columbia University GSAPP fall urban design studio.  Working in the Congressional office since 2000, he has coordinated planning projects and initiatives spanning communities from downtown Brooklyn southwest to Red Hook, Gowanus and Sunset Park.  Prior to that, he served as Education Coordinator at Brooklyn Center for the Urban Environment (1993-1999).  He holds an MA in Urban Geography from Hunter College, CUNY (2007), a BFA from Cooper Union (1987) and was a fellow at the Whitney Museum Independent Study Program (1988).  Before joining the board of CUP in 2006, he participated in the Building Codes exhibition (2001) and The Programmable City.  He also leads numerous interactive public neighborhood and waterborne tours.  His work can be found in If You Lived Here: The City in Art, Theory, and Social Activism, Seattle: Bay Press, 1991.

Stephanie Winarto

Stephanie Winarto is a graphic designer currently based in New York City. Born and raised in Hong Kong, she spent a few years studying in the UK before moving to the US. She graduated from the Rhode Island School of Design with a BFA in Graphic Design, and a concentration in Computation, Technology and Culture. As an urban-dweller shuffling between cities new and familiar, her work is often informed by the experiences of city-life, using design as a vehicle to learn about urban architecture and the social-cultural histories that form with it. Outside of design, Stephanie loves food and how it brings people together.

Willy Wong

Willy Wong immigrated at an early age with his family to Brooklyn from Hong Kong. He currently collaborates with artists, entrepreneurs, philanthropists, and community leaders. He teaches at SVA and Parsons. From 2006–2014, he served as Chief Creative Officer of NYC & Company, where he and his team contributed to over 100 civic initiatives and public/private partnerships, including NYCGO, NYC Service, PlaNYC, GreeNYC, MillionTreesNYC, NYC Taxis, Bike NYC, NYC Mayor’s Cup, NYC Restaurant Week, NYC Broadway Week, Fashion’s Night Out, and NYCxDesign. During his tenure, tourism’s total economic impact to the City increased 50% to $60 billion, with domestic visitation increasing by 50% and international by 100%. He previously worked in advertising at MFP New York, software engineering at Sapient, management consulting at PricewaterhouseCoopers, and private banking at JP Morgan. He earned his MFA from Yale and AB from Dartmouth.

Rosten Woo

Rosten Woo is a cultural producer living in Los Angeles. He makes work that helps people understand complex systems and participate in group decision-making. He produces that work in partnership with local and national groups ranging from the American Human Development Project to the East Los Angeles Community Corporation. His work has been exhibited at the Cooper-Hewitt Design Triennial, the New Museum, the Venice Architecture Biennale, Netherlands Architectural Institute, the Lower East Side Tenement Museum, on the internet, and in various public housing developments, tugboats, shopping malls, and parks in New York City and Los Angeles. His first book, “Street Value,” was published by Princeton Architectural Press in 2010. He is co-founder and former executive director of the Center for Urban Pedagogy (CUP). Erika Wood

Erika L. Wood is an Associate Professor of Law at New York Law School.  Previously, she was the Deputy Director of the Democracy Program at the Brennan Center for Justice where she designed and launched major reform campaigns around the country and provided legal counsel and strategic guidance to advocates, legislators, and policymakers nationwide. Erika has litigated complex civil rights cases and is a frequent speaker and commentator on voting rights, criminal justice reform and racial justice issues.  In 2010, she worked with CUP to produce the MPP Know Your Lines.

Sandy Xu

Sandy was a Program Assistant at CUP. She has pursued her interest in all things sustainable and inclusive at a variety of places, including a civil society organization in China, a disaster relief nonprofit in Japan, and a political advocacy group in New Jersey. Originally from Hawaii, she studied Chinese and sociology at Peking University and has a B.A. in East Asian Studies from Harvard University. She can make herself understood, for the most part, in Chinese and Japanese; she is working on her Swedish.
